Electronic toy (battery) in Great Britain (UK): which rules apply?

Rules that apply, with conditions to check
- Electromagnetic Compatibility Regulations 2016 (UKCA / CE): conditions to check: Exceptions (equipment covered by other specific instruments, aeronautical apparatus, equipment incapable of generating harmful interference, others in the Regulations) cannot be settled from the visitor's answers; battery/mains is a judgement for 'electrical and electronic equipment'. Depends on the product or standards (see the note)
- Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 (UKCA / CE): conditions to check: Not every product for children is a toy: some products are specifically excluded (regulation 4, e.g. toy steam engines) and Schedule 1 lists products not considered toys. 'Designed or intended for play' by under-14s is the test. Depends on the product or standards (see the note)
- General Product Safety Regulations 2005 (none): conditions to check: Does not apply to the safety of a product where specific provisions of relevant retained EU law apply (the page gives certain toys as an example), except where the 2005 Regulations go further in aspects of safety covered or obligations.
