Electrical Appliances and Materials subject to the Act are the 457 items designated in the Cabinet Order (116 Specified, 341 Non-Specified); the Act covers parts of electrical facilities, machines, appliances or materials used with them, portable power generators and secondary batteries.

How conformity is shownDepends on the product or standards (see the note)
All notifying suppliers must comply with technical requirements and conduct self-inspection; for Specified items (Category A, 116) they must in addition undergo conformity assessment by a METI-registered body. Non-Specified (Category B) items rely on self-inspection.

Regarding the Specified Electrical Appliances and Materials (Category A ; 116 items), Notifying Suppliers are obliged to undergo conformity assessments of the Conformity Assessment Bodies registered by METI (hereafter, CABs) for each type classification, in addition to the mandatory self-inspection.

Specified: mark, name of the registered conformity assessment body and notifying supplier. Non-Specified: mark and notifying supplier name. Plus ratings per technical standards. The saved guide text does not extract which shape belongs to which category. Sale or exhibition without the PSE labeling is prohibited (Art. 27). Simplified <PS>E / (PS)E marks exist for wires, fuses, wiring devices.
Official wording
For Specified Electrical Appliances and Materials, (i) the mark , (ii) the name of the registered conformity assessment body, and (iii) the name of the notifying supplier must be put on labeling. For Non-Specified Electrical Appliances and Materials, (i) the mark and (ii) the name of the notifying supplier must be put on labeling.
