Directive 2014/53/EU (Radio Equipment Directive, RED)

Radio equipment: electrical or electronic products that intentionally emit and/or receive radio waves for radio communication or radiodetermination (or need an accessory such as an antenna to do so).

How conformity is shownDepends on the product or standards (see the note)
For Art. 3(1) requirements (safety, EMC) the manufacturer may use internal production control (Annex II), EU-type examination + conformity to type (Annex III) or full quality assurance (Annex IV). For radio spectrum (Art. 3(2)) and Art. 3(3) requirements, internal production control is allowed only if harmonised standards published in the OJ were applied; if not applied, applied in part or non-existent, a notified body procedure (Annex III or IV) is required.

Mark and declarationCE marking; EU declaration of conformity (or simplified EU declaration of conformity accompanying each item)
CE marking on the radio equipment or data plate and also on the packaging, before placing on the market; followed by the notified body identification number where Annex IV is applied; each item accompanied by a copy of the EU declaration or a simplified one with the internet address of the full text.

Where compliance of radio equipment with the applicable requirements has been demonstrated by that conformity assessment procedure, manufacturers shall draw up an EU declaration of conformity and affix the CE marking.
